I've broken it up into (rather large) bite-size chunks so that you won't get bored going through a whole bunch of stories. I've tried to keep it in chronological (Gee, that's a big word) order, so that it makes some kind of sense.
You may think that it didn't really look like it needed a rebuild, but trust me, with over 10 years of fairly regular use, it really needed a good tidy up. From a distance it was OK, but just about every panel had a dent in it or a bit of rust. Nothing major, but enough to bug the hell out of me!
I pulled it off the road towards the end of 2001 (I think?) and thanks to living in apartments and not really having a decent place to work on it, progress was pretty slow. Towards the end of 2004 we moved into a house with a tandem double garage and I was starting to suffer from serious withdrawal symptoms.
As nice as my wife's late model cars were to drive, there's just nothing like cruising around in something you built yourself. Something you've poured your heart and soul into, spent hours working on (quite often into the very early hours of the morning) and after many busted knuckles and the odd swear word, you finally get the piece of old pig iron to fire up.
Then it's time to go cruising...
